I have been planning on moving free things online to a new site, but just hadn't gotten around to doing it. Well finally I took the plunge and migrated the site to its own domain so be prepared for a lot of changes over the next few days and a much better site.
The site theme and concept of the site hasn't changed that much, but the site name has. Once I have completed the overall move and a few tweaking here and there you will be redirected to the new site.

Just stumbled on a software tool called hot spot shield that allows you to by pass hulu , pandora restrictions for us citizens only. I have to admit I spend an awfully long time online, my job requires it, my previous college/university projects required it. Over the past few years the internet has helped me tremendously in my learning experiences. Most of the time during college /university programming projects I never used to ask the lecturers how to solve a problem due to lack of faith in them, I was never satisfied with the answers I received, most of them if they didn’t know would say “Google it” or am sure if you search the web you will find the answer so most of the time I resorted to finding my own answers online. This may be different for other people as I’m in programming field most of the materials are in abundance via the web.

I believe what makes you a brilliant student is not always about going to the best universities in the world or the most expensive institutions, all that is great and I encourage it, but its about taking it upon your self to take the initiative to want to learn and take that extra step to self learn and go beyond just the assignments, explore different areas in your subject field and always continue to look for more challenging tasks to get you to think and expand your thought process.

Gone are the days where you had to pay a hefty tuition fee in order to attend a course or college/university. Given the time and the will to learn you can pretty much about learn most of the things online if you just take out the time to search for it.
Web learning gives you an alternative means of learning. And for those of us you might not have the cash to go off to Massachusetts Institute of Technology or Stanford , online learning is definitely an alternative or a supplementary option.

I have started to see a increasing growing number of institutions offering online educations for free, its amazing how some of this great content is been offered to the public at zero cost. For those of you who haven't started taking advantage of your free Gmail storage space you might want to give the following extensions a try.

Use gmail as a hard-drive

G-Mail Drive is small application that literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder by creating a virtual drive that allows you to use Gmail as a storage medium allowing you to perform saving and retrieve files as if it where your local hard drive.
You can drag and drop files into the drive, or use standard cutting and pasting. When you add a file, it sends an e-mail to your Gmail account with the file as an attachment. If you delete a file from the virtual drive, it deletes the associated e-mail, as well. Thats pretty about all you can do, but a pretty hand tool and an easy way of having an alternative means of backing up your files.

Listen to Music and Playlists from Gmail

Monitor your uTorrent downloads via google home page

The bit torrent world is your haven, you’re the type of person who just can’t wait for you’re downloads to complete. Your constantly checking, validating to see how many minutes are left and how many downloads have successfully completed. So why should you let a little thing like being away from your home computer stop you from keeping tabs on your downloads. Previously I posted on using uTorrent’s webUI (web user interface) tool to control and monitor your bittorent downloads remotely, using webUI. Using this great plug-in works just fine, but that’s not the only way you can monitor your downloads.
uTorrent has a Google widget/gadget for your Google Home page/igoogle that allows you to remotely monitor your downloads, take note this gadget only allows you to remotely monitor so the sad thing is you can only watch without control over your downloads. The good thing is you can embed this gadget about anyway online for example in blog or website etc.

How to set you your uTorrent gadget

The first thing you need to do is download and set up the utorrent webUI plugin if you haven't done so already take a quick read on my previous step by step on how to achieve this. Once you have performed all the steps outlined in the guide you can head on to your Google home page. Take not you will need to have an active Google account in order to gain access to your Google home page.

step 1 : login into your Google Homepage.
On your Google Homepage select "Add stuff " the button located at the top right hand side of your page.

step 2 : Now you should see the Add gadget menu.
Select "Add RSS Feed" this link is located near the bottom left hand side of the page.

Once done this should invoke a pop textbox that will allow you to enter the following URL http://conradpoohs.com/uTorrent.xml

Take note they are two variants of this gadget that I have seen so far via the uTorrent forums. The first link above gives you the following gadget see pic below.

The second URL http://river.hidden.googlepages.com/uTorrent.xml gives you a gadget that looks like this

The main difference is the first link gives you a gadget that has an extra option to limit the total number of active torrents downloading (just for cosmetic purposes).

After clicking the "add" return to your Google HP. You should then see the one of the gadgets above depending which link you decided to use.

step 3: What we need to do now is configure the gadget so that it will then display the torrent trackers currently loaded in the uTorrent

In the "Address" box you will enter your IP address. If you are unsure what it is go to the myipaddress.com and it will tell you your address.
The "Port" box is for the port you currently have open as the listening port for incoming connections to the uTorrent. You can find it under uTorrent's options ->"Preferences" -> connections tab as shown below.

Lastly, for the "Guest username" type guest this is the default for admin login type in the username you previously chose to use with the webUI plugin.

If you have reach this part your pretty much done you should have all the information entered as shown in this picture below.

click save and you should see your active torrents

Post your comments here or problems you might face in trying to configure this gadget. Take note if your behind a router you will need to look up port forwarding for your specific brand and type of router this is different on every router.

Send outgoing email messages from a different email address using Acebird.com. Acebird is a web app that seems to do the impossible. You can send email that appears to come from any email address (even those that you don't own). At first blush, Acebird seems like a very controversial application. While Acebird certainly has many practical applications, it can also be used to do heavy damage. Nevertheless, if you ever have a legitimate need to send email from someone else's account, Acebird is a good way to go about doing so. There are two ways that I've been able to identify email coming from Acebird: the mailed-by server is "gator344.hostgator.co" (when it should be something more recognizable like "gmail.com"), and there is no way to customize the name of the sender.

Well they was youtube now there's filesTube a search engine dedicated to files what kind of files? well things like (rapidshare files, megaupload files etc) .
This a much better way of searching for such files and its apparently not powered by Google, that means what you might not be able to find using Google you might just find using filestube. I have to admit they where a few search queries that did not produce any relevant results using Google search but filestube managed to get some pretty relevant results some where spot on. Overall the web interface is clean and its not clattered with advertisements making the surfing experience that much better.

I just noticed people are using this search engine to find nothing else but porn , most of the top searches are porn my goodness.

Other things you can do with the service

I have been speaking English since forever, but just sometimes once in a while you run into some words that you just have no clue how to pronounce. I came across a great pronunciation tool or audio dictionary whatever you want to call it, that might just help in this situation and thought I should share it, maybe it might be of some use to you. I haven't come across a free rapidshare premium account that works. most of the claims I have come across are just plain bogus or are horribly complex and strenuous for the non tech savvy users to perform without hurting them selfs. To have the illusion of continuous downloading you can queue up all your downloads and resume so as each one finishes the next will begin.
According to the site FAQ download speeds will be upto 200 KB/sec for the first 800 MB. After you reach this limit, download speed will be limited to 32 KB/sec. During my testing averaged between 25 - 35kb/sec. I cant complain its a free service.

Overall the services works great so far i kid you not and definitely beats having to wait for that counter you know what I mean if your a user of rapidshare.

My goodness , Blogger has some of the ugliest templates I have ever seen I would reckon 95% of blogger templates I have come across are absolutely the same, with slight variations in color and layout positions, but pretty much look a likes, lets not event talk about the default themes. Blogger from my opinion doesn't have much variety compared to wordpress blogs. I can’t say much about my template either, but hey my main concern right now is bringing good content to my readers. Since the site has been gradually growing, I will definitely be switching to my own hosting by the end of the year. If you have a dial-up connection or use DSL/ADSL (broadband) to connect to the Internet you're most likely picking up a dynamic IP address from a pool of possible IP addresses at your Internet service provider's network during each login/dial in.

A dynamic IP address means that every time you connect to your ISP or at certain intervals, your computer's IP address may change. This poses a problem if you try to run your mp3 server using a dynamic IP address.
If you think you have a dynamic IP address, you should ask your network administrator

One way to guess if you might have a dynamic IP address is head on to www.myipaddress.com write down your IP address then disconnect from your Internet service provider, reconnect back and recheck your IP address. If the IP address you see after reconnecting is different, that means you have a dynamic IP address, if this is the case then the services I recommend below will be for you.
Note that seeing the same IP address after reconnecting does not necessarily mean that you have a static IP address. This is because if some other computer doesn't use your current address when you disconnect (if someone else doesn't connect to your ISP in the meantime, for example), you may get the same address when you reconnect.

IP addresses such as 64.58.76.229 can be difficult for people to remember and yet impossible to use if they are dynamic , so a scheme called DNS (Domain Name Service) was developed. A DNS maps a human-friendly name, called a domain name morefreethings.blogspot, to an IP address 68.55.55.222. For instance.

In order to get started using the no-ip or dyndns services , you will need to sign-up for a free account add your dynamic ip address, you can find out your Ip address here (www.myipaddress.com).
Download your dynamic dns software for either no-ip (Windows Dynamic Update Client Download) mac and linux options are available for no–ip or dyndns, follow the installation instructions. The software client you will have installed on your computer will constantly monitor any changes in your machine's IP address and updates your free domain name.

You will be able to access your computer anywhere remotely with a more readable and easy remember domain name as shown above.

You probably have heard of Naspter back in the day, kazaa back in the day, limwire, edonkey, warez they have come and gone some are still active, but full of spyware malware you name it. Now you have ares, shareaza and bittorrent currently going strong. Now we have tribler the new kid on th block. Tribler is a social community that facilitates filesharing through a so called peer-to-peer network think of it like (youtube/friendster meets bittorrent). Tribler integrates BitTorrent with YouTube. Tribler was originally created by scientists in The Netherlands, at Delft University of Technology and Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. The most recent release was created in collaboration with scientists at Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Since tribler facilitates social networking, once your connected to the network it starts exchanging information. First it exchanges personal information (such as your avatar picture, your friends list, download history, etc.) and information about files that are available in the network. These files can be personal, shared files, but also files that one has received from another person.

So whats so special about tribler as opposed to the rest? The p2p application introduces a new concept to the realm of p2p, bandwidth as currency. Tribler is hoping to enforce a better way of spreading the burden of file sharing across its community of members. Once a user is done viewing or downloading a file, it can be shared with other users. This offers a way to let users build credits, which can be spent acquiring other files from other users over the network, more credits can be earned by sharing more. This makes upload and download time faster for the entire community, and encourages users to upload just as much as they download.

In opinion the idea of currency concept makes sense, and could reduce the number of leechers (egoistic person who downloads a file using P2P technology, and who does NOT share enough with others when in possession of the complete file, reducing it's Availability).

Am a bit skeptical about triblers social community aspect, usually hardcore file distributors, I guess would want to keep their annomity this depends which country your in. If your probably in America you definitely wouldn't want to publicly give away your person details on a p2p network, with all this copyright infringement online ,publicly displaying you details would pretty much make you an easy target and could potentially get you sued.

Take note tribler is currently still new and their's not a lot of content nor users so you might find the speed a wee bit slow, this is based on my observation when I was testing it, you may experience a different experience.

NBC to offer free tv shows

NBC has announced plans for embarking on a bold new intuitive in which it finally acknowledges that people are increasingly moving away from traditional television viewing patterns.More and more people want to consume television programming on their own terms -- at a place and time of their own choosing. As a result, NBC has decided to begin allowing people to download TV episodes using a new service it plans to call "NBC Direct."

It will allow users to download a TV show for up to a week after the show has aired on broadcast TV, for 7 days from this date it will automatically delete itself. The only real drawback is that the video file will contain embedded ads that supposedly can't be skipped.

A test version of the new service will launch in October and will eventually be expanded in coming months to let users subscribe to shows and download them automatically. By the end of the year NBC also promises to allow viewers to also transfer content to a portable media player or a MAC. NBC intends to transform the service into a model similar to iTunes by the middle of 2008 where consumers “We did this to eliminate the middleman,” said Jeff Gaspin, the president of NBC’s digital division.

“With the creation of this new service, we are acknowledging that now, more than ever, viewers want to be in control of how, when and where they consume their favorite entertainment,” said Vivi Zigler, the executive vice president of NBC Digital Entertainment. “Not only does this feature give them more control, but it also gives them a higher quality video experience.”

A quick tip regarding downloading of rapidshare files

If you use a download manager and drag and drop or copy the url into the program, take note of the link's extension, if it ends with .htm or .html Sometimes the download manager will only download the webpage itself, but not the file.

This link, for some download managers, will download the html (the page the file is located at), but not the file itself. And then the html file that the download manager downloads is sometimes renamed as a small .rar file. Unrar that and you'll get the appropriate error.

So, the moral of this story is, when you post a Rapidshare URL, remove the server-include as well as the .htm/.html extension. People will be less frustrated with your posts.

P2p networks have transcendent over the years to new heights that virtually most people have probably used one or are currently using one making it one of the fastest means of information decentralized information distribution.. We have seen many of them come and go from the days of napster , kaaza , edonkey, emule to currently most popular ares and shareza and the widely adopted bittorrent network. For those of you who are not familiar with p2p in lame terms its basically a technology that allows your computer system to act as a downloader and distributor of content via a p2p application as aforementioned above. Content can be anything from videos, documents to music. Sadly with the rise of such company's such as Overpeer which closed due its efforts proving to be worthless and MediaDefender, both companies used a spoofing technique in order to frustrate users’ attempts to trade content.
Decoying and Spoofing are the most commonly known techniques that involve sending blank files and data noise that look exactly like a real file to an initiated search requests for a particular title or search query.

Here are some tips you can use to filter out good quality content on Ares. Take note these tips are not always fool proof, but work most of the time. The probability is much higher if you use the following tips to find your desired content. The tips can also be applied to other file sharing applications.

Files with many sources are suspects, if you usually see a file averaging from anywhere above 50 users. Theirs a bit of a question mark there. 1 – 5 sourced files are usually the best way to go.

Check for file size and resolution. Resolutions above 640x480, and file sized above 500MB are usually good quality videos.

Search using “axxo” at the end of your search append axxo or in front of your search query. Axxo is more like a code name for the most popular DVD ripper on BitTorrent. Averaging sizes of 650 to 700MB, made to fit on a single CD. Or you can search by axxo only this will load up an extensive list of video titles.

Get in the habit of using rottentomatoes to read reviews of movies before downloading them, for example before you download any move head on down to www.rottentomatoes.com and see what percentage the movie gets before spending endless hours downloading crap. rottentomatoes is a very reputable movie review site for casual movie watchers and movies buffs.

One of the major draw backs I found with this system are the waiting screenshot rendering times which take between 30mins to 4 hours. The system doesn't support real time rending of screen shots so be prepared to grab a cup of coffee it will be a while. Overall its a pretty neat tool for a web developer or designer to have at their disposal.

Step by Step guide on How to setup web uTorrent Interface

This is a simple step by step tutorial on how to set up uTorrent web interface for your bittorrent uTorrent client. For those who would like to use uTorrent remotely.

Step 1: First you will need to download the latest version of uTorrent if you do not already have it installed on your computer system. This can be found here

step 2: once your uTorrent client is installed, download the Web Interface package. This can be found here

Within the zipped .rar file locate webui.zip

The WebUI.zip needs to placed in the same folder as µTorrent's SETTINGS.DAT file and DO NOT unzip it. Your settings.dat file can be found here C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\uTorrent , in order to navigate to this location click start run within the run dialog text box type %AppData%\uTorrent

Step 3: fire up uTorrent and enable the Web interface by clicking on options->Preferences->Advanced->WebUI.

Step 4: Enter your Authentication details this will enable you to login to your uTorrent client via your web browser. Under connectivity check alternative port and finally click ok to save settings.

Step 5: To test uTorrent Web interface fire up your internet browser

Type the following URL http://localhost:8080/gui/

Enter username and password you specified in step 4.

If your using firefox you can use the following url format this allows you to insert your password and username directly into the URL address text box http://Username:Password@localhost:8080/gui/

localhost as mentioned above refers to your local IP address of your computer, in order to use it remotely you will need to acquire the IP address your ISP assigns to you. you can find out about your IP address by navigating to the following url www.myipaddress.com. once you have this you can replace localhost with your ISP assigned IP address.

If you IP address is dynamic meaning it changes regularly this can be inconvenience. In order to get your on free domain name that will map directly to your computer hosting your uTorrent client no-ip provides free domain names and a clients for you to download free of charge. The client when configured will check your IP address at a given time interval checking to see if your IP has changed. If your IP address has changed it will notify their dns servers and update the IP corresponding to your No-IP hostname.

Take note WebUI does not support Internet explorer 6.

I guess this post will probably appeal more to tech savvy bittorrent download fans, or people who simply cant wait for their downloads to complete and simply must constantly keep an eye on them. Sindre Sorhus, the developer behind the project uTorrent mUI has released a mobile bittorent client, capable of running on any mobile yes any mobile phone capable of some form on internet connection. For thoese not familier with utorrent web interface, it basically allows the end user to control his or her µTorrent client from any Internet enabled computer. For instance your not at home and you happen to be in some remote area with really crappy internet speed and you just got to download, you simply log on to utorrent web interface and a µTorrent web interface is displayed on the remote machine. (will post a simple step by step on how to achieve this keep check blog for updates). All you will have to do is upload the torrent file via the web interface to your remote machine The remote machine will then ackownledge the requests and will begin downloading the desired file. uTorrent mUI does just that but this time via your mobile phone. but sadly its pretty much limited to starting and pausing downloads, monitoring downloads, throttling bandwidth.

The one big thing that µTorrent mUI lacks is the ability to add torrents. µTorrent mUI is definitely a concrete step forward in bridging the gap between graphical based p2p clients and web based p2p systems. The project is still and on going process so am sure the features it lacks will be added soon.

Joost a new way of watching tv , brought to you by the creators of skype.

Well finally I have been testing joost tv streaming software. I have to admit I was quite impressed with the clarity of the video, its absolutely excellent near dvd quality content Yet I was very disappointed . I am currently writing a review on it so stay tuned to my review. Joost is currently in beta and only available via invitation only. Having one single anti virus software on your computer can never be enough, they are times where one dose not scan adquately. All virus scanners have their strengths and weakness no one tool is perfect, but of course theres always an alternative way of using multiple AVs (antivirus) tools . virus total a web based services allows you to upload and scan a specific file utilizing multiple anti virus engines ranging from Symantec, node32, avast , avg , bitDefender and macfaee and plenty more which I have never heard e.g kasperksky. Your uploaded file size should not exceed a max of 10 MB.

Most of us cant afford purchasing multiple anti virus applications having such a service at your disposal is pretty handy, sad thing only individual files can be scanned. You may be thinking about the security of uploading your personal files as, always you never know tho files can be uploaded using SSL, so that they’re encrypted. You also have the option of having the file sent to anti-virus vendors for analysis. Here is a basic list of simple steps you absolutely must take to avoid being accused of spamming.

1. Keep records of how and when people are added to your list. You need to record the date, time, referring IP address, and referring web page for each sign-up, as well as the first name, last name, and email address. Of course, keeping detailed records is always good business practice, but in the case of opt-in lists, it is critical. If you are ever accused of spamming, your battle to clear your name will be much easier if you have good records to back yourself up.

2. Track requests to opt out, and remove people who opt out of your list immediately. Again, records are a good way to keep yourself safe. And "remove" requests always need to be taken seriously. If you can't implement "remove" requests every day, make sure you always deal with them before sending a mailing.

My quest for documentaries has been short lived, you got to love the net , once you think of something 80% of the time someone has already thought of it . They are countless times when I watch some very interesting and educational documentaries, but a few days later tend to forget the name of what I had watched, even if i did remember the titles getting a hold of the videos was not easy especially when your local video store do not have what i was looking for. As ridiculous as all of this sounds, many people believe them and pass the messages on. The result is that those of us who know better have to put up with receiving these things from our less astute friends.

Evaluating free stuff offers is pretty easy if you use a little common sense mixed with some knowledge and a bit of experience. Too good to be true, most offers that appear too good to be true usually are. Examine the motivation for the free offer. A free can shampoo makes sense because they are trying to sell shampoo. A free vacation is unlikely, unless there are large hidden charges attached. The lure of free stuff is a powerful marketing tool and is used to good effect by many savvy marketers. Fortunately not every free stuff is a hoax like what I will show you below.

TVUPlayer from tvunetworks.com. This is a clean efficient and FREE video streaming software capable of streaming channels such as star sports,CBS,FOX,spiketv CCTV, Scifi channel , Nickelodeon etc. The application allows stream redistribution to other users watching the same channel. The service is based on a number of patent-pending technologies, covering high-quality video coding, efficient real-time P2P distribution, and effective digital rights management. The more users watch the channel been streamed the better quality streaming quality you will get.

The sad thing is the application doesn't come loaded a lot of channels to choose from but those that it does have are pretty good quality and stream really well. When you start playing the channels may take a few seconds up to minutes this entirely depends on your broadband connection speed. The interface is absolutely simple. It literally took me a few seconds to get it to work. I currently only have a 1.5 mb connection Which is shared with four other PCs/laptop on a home network and it worked just fine even though all the PCs were online at once. If your using Norton AntiVirus 2005 it may keep complaining about Internet worm protection this is caused due to TVUplayer incoming connection which Norton treats as unauthorized worm activity. A notorn anti-virus dialog will keep popping up until you permit the incoming connection from specified UDP port. But this may become annoying. To get rid of this click on options, navigate to internet worm protection uncheck the internet worm protection checkbox.

Another minor problem I noticed is due to channels been broadcast by individuals who already have access to the TV station, there is always a chance that a channels may appear and disappear when that person decides to stop broadcasting.

I also took a while to figure out where the full screen mode was, don’t be fooled its right in front of you. To the right hand side of the volume control, you can click view full button this should bring up the full screen mode. Take not the image gets a bit pixilated. Best viewing is in medium size view.

Overal TUVPlayer has a variety of sport channels. Thos I didn’t see a lot of where movie channels. FOX, Nickelodeon have probably the best streaming quality so far. With an average broadband connection 512kbps you can stream without any jerky of video stream provided your network line is free.

Other languages such as French are available for viewing too. Not sure how long it will last in terms of legal issues. For those of you skeptical TVUplayer does not contain any form of malware.

For those of you who are totally pissed with continuous entering of passwords using the vpn on your laptops heres a little simple hack. you can do the following.

locate C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\Profiles\

within your xxyourfile_name_with_settings.pcf right click and open with notepad

look for the following

SaveUserPassword=0
UserPassword=

now enter your details example

Username=4195599
SaveUserPassword=1 (set password equals to 1 this will enable the vpn client to remember your password)
UserPassword=8383833

save the .pcf file

once you have saved the file right click xxyourfile_name_with_settings.pcf check read=only this will prevent the vpn client clearing your password next time you try logging in.

another thing you may want to do is click options -> vpn client option -> check enable connect on open this will allow the client to automatically connect once you invoke it.
